Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Attempt at Amigurumi

I had long been drawn to all those wonderful and varied tiny animals and toys that have become extremely popular to crochet .... I mean Amigurumi of course, so last summer I sat down to try my hand at one. The original pattern is not mine but from a photo of peas in a pod that I came across on the www, but for the life of me cannot remember where. However I did tweak the original somewhat because I didn't have the colour green at that time so I used blue and made a SEA POD,Dad,Mum and junior. I have to admit I did find it finicky to make it being so small....3inches long and now I'm not sure what I can use it for.
Perhaps on a key ring ...any suggestions ????

Granny squares will never die!

and they won't.........I've been inspired by the beautiful granny squares projects that I've noticed on following lots of really fab blogs like CreJJtionA Tale from Toadstool house and meme-rose....and many many more!!   My granddaughter's bedroom is getting to look rather drab and I thought a bright bright cushion cover made of granny squares would brighten it up.   I am using  NΒΊ 5 Perle cotton and a 3.00 hook.....I chose cotton because I have lots of bits ...left overs and I really need to use them all up.   I also think cotton isn't so scratchy as wool.....my Cookie babe is a real hotpot even in winter she hates cardigans and such and wool will irritate her....I can see her flinging the cushion on the floor if its too scratchy. I suppose I could have done it in baby yarn though.....hmmm the next one!
Anyhow as you can see its underway and taking photos of it has given me another perspective of how the colours combined or not....it looked quite bright to me but now it doesn't seem so in the photograph. I have also tried to keep the bedroom colour scheme in mind.     Amanda  :-)

NO MOAN week

After reading Chipper nelly 's post today I've decided to have a NO MOAN week or rather for the rest of the week.  I'm going to remind myself of all that is good in my life and don't worry too much about problems. I have problems like everyone but I think we ourselves (at least I do) can make them bigger than what they are by worrying too much!

Ok here's a flower which more than represents how I plan to feel for the rest of the week and I am going to remind myself too about all the wonderful things I have be grateful for.    JOIN ME if you'd like to experience a NO MOAN week. :-)

I am thankful for:

  • a wonderful husband who I have been married to for 40 years this June
  • a secure home and strong family relationship
  • a job I enjoy very much
  • my grandaughter who I love to bits
  • a sense of humor that sees the funny side of things where others don't!
and I am sure there's more but I have the rest of the week to think about them :-)

CrochetImust: A very important member of the family

CrochetImust: A very important member of the family

and as I was saying Willie has been with us for 18 years.......this April. A sad but happy tale how he came to us........ a friend of my daughter's saw a plastic bag on the floor in the lift in the students residence in the University, and it started to wriggle! It was Willie of course trying to get out from under the dead bodies of his brothers and sister....poor babe!  His eyes still closed!  The girl's mother wouldn't let her keep him so she came to my daughter and my daughter of course couldn't say no.

She took him straight to the vet and he said Willie was about 8 days old, very weak and it was very unlikely he would live, nevertheless he gave my daughter free of charge powdered milk and the tiniest of little feeding bottles so she could try to get him to feed which he thought was highly unlikely. However Willie (at that time he was kitten no name) was a determined little chap and as you can see in the photo (old copy I'm afraid!) he went for that bottle as soon as it got near his mouth... as blind as a bat but he knew that was something yummy.

There is more..... :-)

A very important member of the family

I think its time I introduced Willie. Most certainly an important member of our family since he adopted us 18 years ago.

Willie has a story which I will tell you about in my next post!  A.

Tuesday 10 April 2012

Just finished......feel totally ruffled now!

Finally....those ruffles took quite awhile to do......they are decidedly chunky.
My own design...no pattern unless I make it up myself phew!!! daunting task that.
Just picked a stitch from a baby blanket I did and the ruffles are easy to do just a bit time consuming. This shawl is for my sister's birthday....just got to get it to her in Australia!!
My model (my granddaughter)isn't with me today so I had to use a chair and I don't think the photos have done it justice .....the yarn is really nice....bronze  shiny stuff  from Coats!

Ok I'd appreciate your comments if I ever get anyone on this blog. :-)
